White Square Course Rep Award Winners 2013

Every year, hundreds of students volunteer to represent their group as Course Reps. For the first time, we are rewarding some of the very best Course Reps across UAL for their commitment, kindness and imagination. Judged by the full-time Elected Officers, these twelve White Square Course Rep Award winners epitomise the selflessness and ingenuity of students looking out for each other.

Anna Webber BA Book Arts LCC

“She is brave and selfless and articulates the students’ views extremely well and presented their objections to senior management in a very clear and forceful way.”

“Anna is an open minded and highly intelligent person. She is always supportive of her colleagues and helps to foster a collegiate experience amongst the cohort.”

Chirag Dewan MA Creative Practise for Narrative Environments CSM

“Chirag holds birthday parties for us once a month. He brings everybody together!”

“Chirag gives us the courage to express our anxieties to the tutors.”

Chloe Lewis FdSc Beauty & Spa Management LCF

“She is always willing to go the extra mile and will often take the initiative helping to manage the salon within the salon practice sessions which are when the students work on clients. Just her personality alone makes her brilliant!”

Emma Alington BA Ceramic Design CSM

“Organising and chairing the degree show committee with tireless enthusiasm.”

“Making sure those of us working off-site have a voice and are included in all plans and developments for the year and the show.”

Francesca Peschier MRES Arts Practise Chelsea

“Frank set up the JAWS journal, getting most people on the course involved in the process, and demonstrating the strength of our group to staff and other students. The journal is a great platform to demonstrate our commitment to research in a self-driven way, and has helped us build some really good relationships.”

“Frank is a great facilitator in terms of making contact regularly, and maintaining regular weekly meetings.”

George Price BA Fine Art: Print & Time-based Media Wimbledon

“George organised college-wide screenings and brought new material to the student community. He built great connections between the course and organizations across London, the UK and overseas”

Georgia Dennison BA Fine Art: Sculpture Wimbledon

“Georgia has improved the course by making new students feel welcome and showing them around, building great connections between different student reps, students and staff, and helping organise social events across the college and between colleges.”

Giulia Scuffietti MA Publishing LCC

“Giulia is positive, hardworking and loyal – she has done her best effort for our class.”

“Giulia, has helped enormously improving the networking opportunities by assisting with initiatives to help students network across the cohort of magazine and other students - total 39 MA students - from different countries and cultures.“

Huihui Liu MA Fine Art Chelsea

“Huihui is bubbly and friendly and helps everyone. She is the most friendly and helpful of MAFA students and really wants everyone to enjoy their year on the MA.”

“She is the best rep I’ve ever seen, because she always gives a hand to everyone with her enthusiasm, and lets every student get important information as soon as possible.”

Krisha Bejal Chavda BA Cordwainers Footwear LCF

“Krisha has succeeded in persuading the technical area that year 2 students should have access to laser cutting inductions. (Students and staff have been trying to achieve this for four years.)”

“Krishha has arranged a social evening out every week where everyone in her year group is made welcome.

Pro-active in her role as student rep she organises frequent meetings in college with her cohort then makes an appointment with her course leader and year tutor. This ongoing dialogue has ensured problems have been solved quickly and easily.”

Maren Reese BA Painting Camberwell

“Maren is very proactive. She has made sure the community of Camberwell Course Reps are united on certain issues and works well with students and staff.”

“Maren’s focus on clear communication is great – she has directly improved the induction of Erasmus and Study Abroad students among the course.”

Olga Pope BA Graphic Design CSM

“Olga is a motivated student who has been a really helpful ally to her fellow graphic design students. She has helped out on the graphic design portfolio day for 3rd years and organised a series of Guardian lectures.”

“She is friendly and encouraging to her fellow students.”

Sarah Fortais MA Fine Art CSM

“Sarah empowers the cohort of students by keeping them very well informed and encouraging them to participate in cross course and college events. She encourages students’ participation in in-course seminars and has curated exhibitions with them.”

“Sarah keeps morale high by sticking to the cause and repeatedly bringing our issues up so that they are eventually addressed.”

Each winner will receive a trophy created by the winners of our design commission. If you know any of the winners be sure to give them your congratulations.

Trophies for the White Square Teaching Awards in production. Designed and built by Abay Zhumagulov and Marcus Kane, winners of our trophy design competition and current BA students at CSM.

We wanted to create something visually interesting as well as tactile for the receiver.  A wooden core is surrounded by cement, creating the white square award logo on the top and bottom, while also creating something dynamically visual. We also wanted a texture on half of the award to represent the two different sides to teaching, the rough and the smooth.
